AIRLINE TRAVEL TIPS
The right airline travel tip can help you squeeze a little bit more comfort out of your travel plans. Speaking of squeezing, flights these days are more crowded than ever--the most anyone can hope for is an empty seat next door. There are a few sneaky ways to get one, but a crucial one is getting to the airport early.
Some Airline Travel Tips to Make Your Flight a Bit More Comfortable
Too big for the regular airline seat? If you're tall, sit in an emergency exit row; you'll have to pay extra attention during the announcements, but you'll get to stretch out those long legs. A more common desire, though, is wider seats--airline seats haven't grown the way most Americans have in the last few decades, but there are ways to be next to an empty seat.
Here are a few airline travel tips for when you are booking your flight. Ask right away to be seated next to an empty seat; this works better when you book directly with the airline. Another tip is to book on less crowded flights, like red-eyes, or--if you can afford it--in less crowded areas; i.e., upgrade to a better class.
The best airline travel tip for your travel day is to check in as early as possible. This guarantees your checked-in bags will make it on your flight, lets you take your time going through security, and on some airlines--most notably, Southwest--it puts you in front of the open-seating line. And if you do board early, pop up the armrest: it'll give you a bit more room and discourage others from sitting there unless they absolutely have to.
TRAVEL IN COMFORT
Travel in comfort or pay the price. It's true: traveling today, if done without foresight, can be a frustrating, uncomfortable nightmare. I travel about once a month and see all the frequent flyers. They don't look nearly as miserable as I feel because they know all the secrets.
To Travel in Comfort, Start at Home
It may seem obvious to some, but a comfortable trip begins at home--long before you go. Book a flight during off-peak hours if you want to have an empty seat next to you. Pack ahead of time, get plenty of sleep, and have a few routes for the airport--and get there early for less stress and better seats.
On the day of your flight, you can travel in comfort by getting all the right gadgets: pressure-regulating earplugs that take the pressure off your ear drums, noise reducing headphones to cut the background noise, and vibrating alarm clocks to keep you in synch with your sleep cycle. And don't forget your own blankets, neck pillows, and sleep masks to make your stiff chair seem more like a soft bed.
Did you know that about one in five airplane travelers get a cold within a week of flying? To travel in comfort means to be healthy, too; cramped cabins are a breeding ground for all sorts of colds and other viruses. There are a number of homeopathic medicines that boost your immunity while flying and cut back the effects of jet lag, too.
TOP AIRPLANE TRAVEL ACCESSORY
My favorite airplane travel accessory is a set of headphones. Although I don't travel nearly as much as I used to, I'm still on an airplane about once a month, and I know what works best for me. A book is another great airplane travel accessory--you don't have to turn it off for take-offs or landings--but nothing blocks out noise like headphones.
My first long airplane trip was from New York to Frankfurt, Germany; it was my post-college backpacking trip through Europe. I didn't want to pack anything that I wouldn't use often, so I left my Walkman at home, rationalizing that to get good use from it, I'd have to bring a lot of tapes. (This was back in the day when music was bulky; a Walkman was a smallish tape player.)
On my long flights to and from Europe, I wished I had something to listen to instead of the crying children, multi-lingual chatter, and engine noise. The flight attendant gave me some ear plugs, which helped a little, but I learned the hard way that long flights have long delays and long lay-overs; that's a long time to hear a lot of noise. Now, I always bring something I want to listen to.
Get an Airplane Travel Accessory for Your Specific Needs
Not everyone is bothered by noise the way that I am; some people just need a sleep mask and they can catch some Zs at a bowling alley. If you don't fly much and don't know which airplane travel accessory you'll need, think about what's important to you. Tall people bring knee protectors for the seat-backs in front of them, music people bring quality headphones, sleepy people bring their own blankets or pillows--to each his own.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
International travel is fun, educational and exhilarating. That fact has remained the same over centuries, ever since Marco Polo's famous accounts of his travels on the Silk Road into Asia. Of course, the Western world from which Polo came knew virtually nothing of the people, cultures, or terrain of Asia. An Italian traveling deep into the Asian continent in the 13th century was truly traveling into the unknown, taking incredible risks by today's standards.
The world has gotten a lot smaller over the last 800 years. With the advent of jet planes, television and the Internet, the world seems to be shrinking at an exponential pace. Yet traveling has never lost its magic or mystery. Sure, technology can bring us close to countless different worlds with images, video and sound. However, no gadget has thus far been able to replace the excitement of actual, in-person international travel.
Issues in International Travel
For international travelers of the 21st century, it pays to be informed. The world is riskier than it was ten years ago, to be sure ... and yet it isn't. There will always be countries that are dangerous to travel to, "hot spots" that governments warn against visiting. However, we can't let this keep us from enjoying life and seeing the world. Daily life in our hometown runs its risks, too; statistically, we're more in danger of losing our lives driving to work than through traveling overseas. Do we shut ourselves in our homes, worrying about what will happen if we go out? Of course not.
The truth is, it is far cheaper, safer, and more convenient to travel internationally than to live in many U.S. cities. The key is to be informed and alert. Many books, videos, CDs, DVDs and websites provide detailed information, updated regularly, on a plethora of international destinations. This includes not just tourist attractions, but local culture, current events, and the current social and political climate. Any good guide will include traveling safety tips, as well as advice for that specific area, such as what to do and what to avoid, where to go and where to steer clear of, and why.
International Travel Alternatives
Travelers have become more savvy and adventurous, venturing outside the traditional tourist norm of luxury hotels. International travelers have for decades included Peace Corps volunteers, missionaries, and government employees. However, a new development is volunteer tourism, wherein, at a discounted price and with guaranteed security, tourists travel to exotic locales, often in developing countries, and help with local aid projects. They can also expect a richness of interpersonal and multicultural experiences that is simply not possible with typical luxury tours.
Another popular type of international travel is ecotourism. Ecotourism appeals to the conscience of travelers who want to see the world, but who want their presence to have a positive rather than negative effect on the people and environment. Ecotourism brings travelers from all over the globe to the world's most priceless environmental habitats--many, such as the Brazilian rain forests, under threat of extinction. The profits typically go into conservation projects that help the native land and people.
It's Never too Late to Travel!
Even if you've never been outside your own country in your entire life, it's never too late to start. Retirees are the perfect example of this. There are many cases of retirees, for example, who seize the opportunity to finally realize their lifelong dreams of international travel. They make some of the most eager and adventurous travelers around! However, "adventure" means different things to different people.
For some people, just getting on a plane is an adventure. The wonderful thing about modern travel is that you can determine what kind of adventure is best for you. However, traveling internationally is always an adventure in itself, especially when non-English speaking countries are involved. If you don't know the language of the country to which you will be traveling, consider taking a course to learn the basics of that country's language.
DISCOUNT TRAVEL
The love of travel is an almost universal human trait. We all need to separate ourselves from our normal environment from time to time and interact with other cultures, languages, and outlooks. It is shown to reduce stress levels and is a key ingredient in overall mental and physical health.
Getting away from your cares and worries by traveling to exotic places is something every human being needs to experience. Studies show that vacations make employees more productive and happier. They make students more well adjusted and they are one of the best things you can do for your psychological health.
It's obvious that people love to travel and that vacations make us better people, so why do so many vacation dreams go unfulfilled? Almost any one you ask can tell you about their dream vacation. They know where they would go and what they would do, but something always seems to be holding them back.
Overcoming Obstacles Through Discount Travel
What stops most people from taking their ultimate fantasy vacation is cost. International and domestic travel is not usually a cheap undertaking. You have to pay for travel to and from your destination, accommodations during your stay, food, and entertainment for the duration of your trip. The cost can and does add up and this is what most people cite as the main reason their fantasy does not become a reality.
New and better ways of doing business are changing things however. Internet technology is making travel much more affordable. Discount travel sites on the Internet are enabling vacationers on even the tightest budgets to finally take the trip of a lifetime. Discount travel sites are a great source of discount vacation packages, travel vouchers, discount cruises, and more.
If you really want to maximize your travel savings, there is yet another alternative. Discount travel sites are often part of a vacation club. The sites are run by individuals as separate businesses, but they are all a part of the larger club. Sales of the club's packages and products are rewarded with greater income for the site's proprietors. There are clubs that advertise up to 75 percent savings on vacation packages for their members.
Discount Travel Business Opportunities
This is an ideal way to turn your love of travel into something that can make you money as well. Discount travel site proprietors not only earn discounts as part of the club, but they also earn excellent revenues from their site's sales. The total compensation these entrepreneurs receive in income and discounts can be extremely high.
If money is the only thing standing between you and your vacation dream, then your goal is closer at hand than you think. Discount travel sites and vacation clubs are ready and willing to help you find the best vacation deals available anywhere. These are people who are passionate about travel, just like you, and have the skills and experience to get you to where you want to go, so start packing.

AMSTERDAM EXPLAINED |

Incredible
It may sound like a generic word to describe a place, but Amsterdam epitomizes what Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines as "too extraordinary and improbable to be believed." It seems unlikely that a medieval fishing village would become the richest city in the world by the 17th century, and doubtful that swamps and marshlands would go on to support towering buildings for hundreds of years.
Amsterdam's watery existence is perhaps what makes it most incredible; as you wander around the mesmerizing network of canals, it seems inconceivable that they were dug by hand. The extraordinary quality of a floating city is what makes Amsterdam a bit magical. Read more on amsterdam |

| Aruba is among the livelier, more developed islands in the Caribbean. Aruba has high-rise resorts, great restaurants and glitzy casinos lining every white-sand beach. You'll find plenty of things to do on Aruba vacations, too: sunbathing, world-class windsurfing and waterskiing by day, and discos, cabarets, dinner shows and high-stakes gambling at night. Aruba |
Wildlife safaris represent one of the very few ways Man can witness animals in purely natural surroundings. Unlike zoos, or even those drive-through wilderness parks, wildlife safaris allow people to witness the true animal behavior. TRAVEL AGENCY JOBS
In 2002 more than 118,000 people held travel agency jobs. These people performed all kinds of different tasks including booking travel, airfare and accommodations. If you're thinking about becoming a travel agent you can look forward to a rewarding career and travel agent discounts to boot.
When it comes to travel agency jobs you have a number of different choices. Many people who work within the travel industry specialize in booking certain forms of travel like cruise ships, educational travel, or even corporate travel arrangements. Many of the top travel agencies in the United States offer full-service planning and booking to their clients.
Preparing for Travel Agency Jobs
If you want to qualify for travel agency jobs you don't need much training. In fact, the only requirement for most positions is a high school diploma. While the requirements are minimal, it's a good idea to prepare for a career in the travel industry by enrolling in additional training travel agent courses.
You can find classes in your local community through adult education programs and community college courses. In addition, you can find several correspondence courses available online and through the American Society of Travel Agents. This is a professional organization that helps to ensure travel agents adhere to the highest standards of business.
Increasing Your Earning Potential in Travel Agency Jobs
People seeking travel agency jobs can expect to earn an average of $26,000 per year according to government statistics. While this may seem like a low number, the benefits make up for the lower pay. For example, many agents get into the business for reduced airfare fees, and access to hotel and airline upgrades that simply aren't available to the public.
In this day and age you can increase your earning potential by getting familiar with a number of different fields. The more you know about the world, the more convincing you will sound when selling vacation packages to your clients. You may even want to consider studying a foreign language to increase you earning potential. This is especially true if you're going to be working in states with very ethnically and culturally diverse populations..
The Future of Travel Agency Jobs
If you want to find travel agency jobs, you simply must embrace electronic media forms. The Internet is not only a great source of finding job openings in your area, but also it's a great tool for drawing new customers once you're working in the field. Many travel agencies have developed their own websites to provide potential clients with color photos and guide electronic tools. Some people even work at home as travel agents thanks to modern technology.
More and more travel agencies are closing their doors thanks to the availability of online travel packages. If you want to stay competitive in the travel industry, the only thing you have to offer is personal attention. There are plenty of people who still appreciate the value of personal interaction. There are also plenty of people who simply don't enjoy the Internet, haven't learned how to use it, or don't have the time to shop for travel deals online. These people are your core customers, and you should do everything you can to maintain and cultivate these relationships.

TRAVEL AUCTIONS
If you love to travel but cannot afford the high prices that go along with it, you can finally get the deals you want with travel auctions. Essentially, travel auctions online allow you to place bids on specific travel vacations, starting with a minimum bid across the board. You do have the option to go in and enter a maximum bid for yourself, as this can help facilitate the process. Most online sites require you to register with them first before you can begin making bids on their travel packages.
Registering only takes a few minutes, and then you are free to bid on as many travel vacations as you would like. Keep in mind that if you bid on several vacations at once, you may win all of them. If you are not prepared to pay for more than one vacation at a time, it is wise to refrain from bidding on multiple trips. Some companies will not let you back out of a winning bid unless for some reason they cannot accommodate any of your travel dates. Otherwise, you would be obligated to pay for all of your winning bids.
Before you register with an online site, you should take a moment to browse through their offerings. A good travel auction site will offer numerous vacations, from wild African safaris to romantic trips to Tuscany to scuba diving excursions in the Bahamas. If you do not see any vacation packages that really make your heart sing, it may be wise to move on and keep looking for other online sites.
Register to Win with Travel Auctions
Travel is a gift that many people around the world relish. If you often find yourself staring out your office window dreaming of faraway places, you would likely derive great pleasure in travel auctions. Imagine being able to finally take that 10-day cruise to Belize or Cozumel simply because you were the winning bidder online. There is perhaps nothing sweeter than being able to see exotic places, experience new cultures, and meet different people, especially when you can save a tremendous amount of money in the process.
Travel auctions are a traveler's greatest ally. When you take a moment to think about how expensive it can be to book airline tickets, not to mention paying for hotel accommodations, ground travel, and meals, travel auctions are a great deal. You can bid on an entire package, including airfare, hotel, transportation to and from the airport to your hotel, food, as well as all fees and taxes. Forget about paying for each item a la carte. This is only going to drain your funds faster, limiting your options.
Purchasing a total package allows you to get the most for your money, and when you are traveling, any money you can save is a blessing. If you have always wanted to go on a diving excursion in the Seychelles followed by a wild African safari in Kenya, now you can. Travel auctions can literally save you thousands of dollars on fabulous vacations without skimping on the quality of accommodations. You can stay in a luxury oceanfront hotel or sleep in a tented camp out in the bush if that is more to your liking. The point is, travel auctions give you options, and that is always a good thing.
Travel the Smart Way
When booking your winning bid, it is best to include your first choice for travel dates as well as some second and third choices. You must be open to some flexibility in scheduling because that is how most online auction travel sites are able to secure such low prices. If you can only travel during the week of December 2nd, you may find yourself in a pinch. Some travel auction sites will refund your money if they cannot secure your airline tickets or hotel rooms during your requested travel dates. However, some companies will not be as accommodating, simply because they cannot afford to be.
Travel auctions work well for the person who has some degree of flexibility in their schedule, and who does not mind the concept of bidding against others in order to get ultra-low prices on a vacation packages. Most travelers would be thrilled to save big money on top-notch vacation packages, regardless of how they went about doing so. If you cherish the gift of travel but don't have a big budget to fund your excursions, travel auctions could be just the ticket for you.
